How to Transfer SEO Settings When Changing SEO Plugins and Themes
For the better ranking on the searching result pages and the more organic traffic, many of you may choose to install SEO plugins and SEO themes that can result in the great search engine optimization on your site.
After using them for a long time, you can add massive SEO data for your pages and blog posts, such as the content keywords, meta descriptions and meta titles, all of which can have your web content crawled and indexed effectively, along with the high position in the SERPs.
However, once you want to change them to some other options, you will face the risk of losing all of these SEO statistics, which has a huge and negative impact on the SEO ranking of your whole site.
In this case, the moving of SEO data is really crucial. And in the following, we’d like to share two simple methods about how to transfer SEO settings when changing or switching your SEO plugins and templates.
Method 1 – Utilize the SEO Data Transporter Plugin
To put it simply, this is a special WordPress solution that allows you to transfer all your SEO data from one theme or plugin to another. In fact, different plugins and templates may adopt different ways of storing the SEO data, which makes the transfer process much harder. The SEO Data Transporter plugin, however, remedies this fact effectively. There are only a few simple clicks required to finish everything.
However, we have to mention that not all the available WordPress themes and plugins are supported by this plugin, but some widely-used SEO options. The plugin developers continue adding more options to the supported list for each major update.
Support Plugins
- Add Meta Tags
- Headspace2
- All in One SEO
- Platinum SEO
- Greg’s High
- Meta SEO Pack
- WordPress SEO
- SEO Ultimate
Support Themes
- Builder
- Headway
- WooFramework
- Genesis
- Catalyst
- Hybrid
- Thesis version 1
- Frugal
If your utilized plugins and themes are within these options, you can install this useful tool using the administrative panel of your WordPress site. After that, you can start the data transferring by clicking the SEO Data Transfer button from the Tools tab, without the need for the further configurations.
Here, you can leverage its drop-down form to choose which option you are going to transfer from and which to transfer to. Then, you can click the Analyze button that lists all the elements to be converted, along with how many SEO records have been identified to transfer.
After that, you simply need to click the Convert button and wait a few seconds for the completion of the transfer process for your SEO data.
Method 2 – Utilize the Yoast SEO Plugin
This can be viewed as an entry-level WordPress SEO plugin that has been adopted by a large number of WordPress users, especially some newbies. This plugin has 4 main tools, among which the Import and Export one can be used for the transfer of your SEO data. However, unlike the first option that allows you to convert from one option to another, this one only allows you to import the SEO settings from some other SEO plugins. In this case, if you are looking to replace your currently used SEO tool with Yoast SEO, this method is worth considering.
After installing and activating the Yoast SEO plugin on your WordPress site, you can click SEO > Tools > Import and Export.
Now, you only need to press the “Import from other SEO plugins” tab and choose your previously used SEO plugin for the transferring of SEO settings. Note that the supported plugins include wpSEO, All In One SEO, HeadSpace and WooThemes SEO.
In addition, we highly recommend you to tick the last checkbox that will delete the old data after the successful import.
